Features and Fish Tales From Seaport Academy

Pretzel Logic
atsonas ::: Academics, Electives

The enticing aroma of warm, sugary goodness floods the hallowed hallways…are we at the Top of the Hub? Finale? Bertucci’s?

No! It's the sweet treat of Tuesday afternoons at the Seaport Academy – the baking elective. In term two, we mastered the art of the pepperoni pizza, rice krispie treats, muffins and our infamous peanut butter cup cookies. During the holidays, we decked the halls with peppermint bark, sugar cookies and outrageous chocolate dipped pretzels. They haven’t all been winners – we won’t soon forget the food coloring explosion of 2012, or the Ugly Cookie Contest that sent our Valentines running for the hills...

But this past Tuesday, term three more than redeemed themselves by baking Auntie Anne’s Pretzels from scratch. After wrestling with the yeast, and twisting his pretzels to perfection, Jabrill spoiled his supper with the sumptuous cinnamon sugar pretzels. Meanwhile, Gabe rolled up his sleeves and braided long strands of dough together to make super-salty challah pretzels, and the classic salty soft pretzel. Can’t wait for next week, you never know what's going to come out of the Seaport kitchens..
