The Special Needs Advocacy Network (SPaN) hosted a conference at the Westin Hotel in Waltham on February 10 and Seaport Academy was there. The Seaport table was manned by John Charow, the history teacher and Floyd Masters, one of Seaport’s seniors who is attending Bunker Hill Community College. SPaN has provided continuing professional development for advocates and other professionals in the field of Special Education for the past 25 years.

The conference gave Seaport the opportunity to meet with advocates, parents and providers to highlight the programming that Seaport offers. Floyd was an immeasurable asset in this endeavor and nearly everyone he shared his Seaport experience with was impressed with his story and the candid nature he used in sharing his story. Attendees were surprised and rather impressed that we brought a student and expressed a desire for all of the schools to have a student’s perspective showcased at the conference. The sense that this writer got from the attendees who stopped by was that they would be very likely to investigate the school further for their client
